Our show theme is “Rocks at Work.” There will be displays showing this theme. There will be dealers selling minerals, fossils, gems, jewelry, beads, lapidary materials such as “slabs,” books, and other related “stuff.”
The Geosciences Department at UWM will bring a seismograph to demonstrate. The recent earthquakes were measured by this equipment. You can get a look at the equipment, ask the UWM staff about the earthquake, and make one of your own!
The Children’s area will have demonstrations and activities all day.
“Paleo Joe” Kchodl, a working geologist, will give a presentation geared for children at 2:30 Saturday. He will give an adult oriented presentation on Sunday at 2:30. Come and hear him speak about fossils, including dinosaurs.
You may also see and purchase material from Picher, OK, the site of recent tornadoes. That area was a lead and zinc mining location where much of the lead used in car batteries made in Milwaukee by the former Globe Union battery plant.
There will be food available, including home-made cakes, cookies and pies.
Parking is FREE.
